My Guiding Light

I was in the dark totally torn apart

Then you came along, my guiding light

You were there to help me start

My journey to recovery and help me get it right.

We started off shakily I had no trust

Slowly and carefully your skills helped me

To scrape through the pain and dust

And then I was able to talk freely

There were times that I all did was cry

The pain inside me was so great

I just felt I wanted to lay down and die

You gave the words that sealed my fate

Your words of wisdom stay in my head

Don’t get up and go to the gate in shoes

Get washed and dressed instead

Your advice is with me how can I lose

I felt like a jigsaw puzzle all over the place

And bit by bit we made the pieces fit

Back into the void and empty space

And now the end of my tunnel is lit

Then on one awful day I hit

A steel door that had no way

In or out for me to use it

And you got me more time to stay

Well silently without any fuss

You we were there right by my side

We walked through together, just us

Now I find it wasn’t such a bumpy ride

You have given me more than you could know

And now its time for me to take

My healing heart in my hands and go

Alone in the world my life to make

Words will never be enough

To say Thank you for your precious gift

I know it will sometimes be tough

But I am on my way to healing the rift

In my life you have played the biggest part

And will always stay within my heart

Now its time for me to find my wings

And see what the future brings
